Lifetime Learning is coming soon

Lifetime Learning’s Fall 2021 Session will run from Sept. 27 to Nov. 19, with eight weeks of exciting new courses, one to four classes in length. The Friends of Snow Library will be running a “hybrid’” Lifetime Learning program for the first time. This means that classes will be held in the library's Craine Room, live and in person, and Zooming from the Craine Room at the same time. A maximum of 40 attendees will be allowed in the Craine Room for each class and will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis when you register.

Storyteller series continues with weekly performances in August

“Storytellers!”, a series of live outdoor performances for the family, continues in August with weekly Wednesday evening performances on the village green in front of Snow Library, 67 Main Street, Orleans. Please bring your own folding chairs or a blanket to sit on.

Join Diane Edgecomb for an evening of “Animal Tales” at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 11. From folktales about adventurous monkeys to a true tale of a neighborhood squirrel that drives everyone nuts, there’ll be tons of participatory fun with Edgecomb’s engaging stories about four-legged capers. . . .

“Storytellers!”, a series of live outdoor performances for the family, begins in July on the village green here at Snow Library, 67 Main Street, Orleans. Inspired by the 2021 Summer Reading theme, “Tails & Tales,” the shows feature music and stories for all ages and from cultures around the world.

Bring folding chairs or a blanket to sit on. This free program is presented by the Friends of Snow Library with the support of a grant from the Fred J. Brotherton Charitable Foundation.

This year’s Summer Reading program begins on Wednesday, June 30, and the theme is “Tails & Tales.” Come to the library to pick up a registration form and reading log. Better yet, come to a Summer Reading Kick-Off Ice-Cream Party from 4 to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, July 6 on the lawn outside the library and pick up a sweet cold treat with your sign-up form. Library re-opening Tuesday, June 1 for limited browsing

The library will re-open for indoor browsing from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Saturday, beginning Tuesday, June 1. Curbside service will continue to be offered daily from 2 p.m. until closing time.

We are delighted to be able to open our doors to the public again, but we ask visitors to observe the following guidelines out of concern for the health and safety of our patrons, staff and community, which consists of year-round as well as transient visitors — vaccinated and unvaccinated — of all ages.

1) Please wear a mask

2) Please limit your visits to 30 minutes

3) Please stay six feet apart

4) Please wash and/or sanitize your hands frequently

If you picked up a blackout poetry kit and would like to submit your work, please drop it off at the library or email it to Kaimi at klum@clamsnet.org by May 31, 2021. We will publish an online gallery of your blackout poems in June. New database provides info on cultures around the globe

Snow Library recently added “A to Z World Culture” to its online reference offerings. This new library database includes detailed information on 175 countries. Starting with a country snapshot and cultural overview, topics include climate, food and recipes, history, language, maps, money and much more. “A to Z World Culture” also includes teaching tools and lesson plans for educators.

Outdoor book sales return on Saturday, April 17

The Friends of Snow Library are delighted to announce that weekly book sales will be resuming in the back parking lot of the library beginning Saturday, April 17. The sales will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., weather permitting. If the yellow and red “book sale” sign is not out on a particular Saturday, the sale is canceled. In conjunction with the sales, the Friends will resume taking book donations – by appointment only – on Wednesdays and Saturdays, beginning Wednesday, April 7.
