From world religions to Rock 'n' Roll in Lifetime Learning's week 7
/The Friends of Snow Library's fall Lifetime Learning session continues next week with a class on World Religions: How Are They the Same and How Are They Different? Led by Steven Kepnes, a world religions professor and author, the two-part course begins on Monday, Nov. 10 from 10:30 a.m. to noon and attempts to discern what world religions have in common, where they diverge, and what impact they have on our world.
In another two-part course (Zoom-only) debuting next week, political science professor Russ Leng takes a look at countries that have transitioned from democracy to authoritarian rule without a military coup or violent revolution. Discussing whether similar processes are underway in our country today, and whether the safeguards in our Constitution are sufficient to preserve our democracy, his class considers the question "Could America Become a Dictatorship?" It takes place on Thursday, Nov. 13 from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
Continuing courses include Folktales and Fairytales: The Stories That Shaped Us, led by Mike McCartney, on Monday from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m, as well as Shakespeare's King Lear: The Ultimate Tragedy, led by Kerry Brown, on Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Later on Wednesday, John Whelan resumes his study of The Pioneers of Rock & Roll, accompanied by Peter Gaines (piano & vocals) and Denise Page (vocals). On Thursday from 2:30 to 4 p.m., Joe Marchio continues his discussion of Great Composers from Russia, Scandinavia, and France.
