  • Snow Library 67 Main Street Orleans, MA United States (map)

This series led by Steve Reynolds, director of plays and musicals at Eventide Theatre and Cape Rep, will examine two Gilbert & Sullivan operettas, starting with “H.M.S. Pinafore” and concluding with “The Pirates of Penzance.” There will be two sessions on each operetta, as Reynolds looks at how the plot, character, thought, diction, music and spectacle work seamlessly to entertain both highbrow and lowbrow audiences. The class will listen to the music, watch production videos, and discuss what they love or don’t love about these shows. Reynolds is professor emeritus of theatre at Wittenberg University and holds a B.A. in British Literature from Tufts and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Theatre, University of Michigan.
