Lifetime Learning: Seven Deadly Sins - Part Two

  • Snow Library 67 Main Street Orleans, MA United States (map)

In this second class of this three-part, Zoom-only course, lecturer Peggy Kelleher will continue to delve into the conceptual origins and impacts of the Seven Deadly Sins within our culture. The cultural popularity of the Seven Deadly Sins has been a frequent theme in art, literature, and discourse since the Middle Ages. How did they originate? What makes them “deadly”? Why do they still hold some degree of fascination for us? Peggy will apply this medieval concept to Greek and Roman mythology, literature, and legend. How closely allied to the ancients are our thoughts about good and evil? When and why did these thoughts change?

This class will focus on the sins of Lust, Gluttony and Greed. The course will conclude on April 24 with a class on Envy, Wrath and Sloth.
