Lifetime Learning: Appreciating Local Theatre

  • Snow Library 67 Main Street Orleans, MA United States (map)

In four classes, the casts and crews of four local theaters will give insight into how they function. Instructors will include Artistic Directors, Playwrights, Actors, Set and Costume Designers, and Marketing Directors. They will explain what goes into a theatre production, how they select shows and who writes them, how they find performers, who directs and manages the shows, how they make sets and stage the lighting and the sound, how much it costs to run a production, and many other aspects of running a theater. They will also give us an exciting sneak peek into their upcoming seasons.

The first class will be taught by representatives from the Academy of Performing Arts in Orleans and will feature Artistic Director Judy Hamer, who will give a history of this iconic theatre. She will be joined by the costume and set designers, followed by a brief live performance from the current production of Annie.

The following classes will be taught by people from these local theatres:
4/9: The Cape Rep Theatre in Brewster
4/16: Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theatre (W.H.A.T.)
4/23: Harbor Stage Company in Wellfleet
