"Figuratively Speaking," an exhibit of figurative art featuring twelve Cape Cod artists, will be on display in Snow Library's Craine Gallery through the month of October. A reception for the artists, featuring jazz guitar by Terry Simpson, will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10. All are welcome. The show is presented by Art Smart Cape Cod.

In conjunction with the Celebrate Our Waters festival, presented by the Orleans Pond Coalition, an exhibit of photography celebrating our aquatic environment - from the freshwater kettle ponds to the estuaries to the ocean - will hang in the Craine Gallery through September.

In her artist’s statement, Carr says, “Photography is an art form that captures light as its central and defining element. While I genuinely honor this ideal, my work also seeks darkness as manifested in silhouette and shadow. In recent years, my work has evolved from the effort to capture sharp, crisp images that is the industry standard to what now ignites my imagination.” Wooded landscapes, particularly those surrounding Boat Meadow in Eastham, are recurring subjects in her work.

This exhibit of oil paintings depicts the Outer Cape - its landscapes and those whose livelihoods are connected to it. In her artist’s statement, Karen Dec writes:“For me, creating art is observation and documentation. It brings together mindfulness, problem solving, imagination and creativity. My works express emotions of peace, solitude and rhythmic quietness. Utilizing a palette knife and bold brush strokes, my paintings portray the natural beauty and human resilience that defines the Outer Cape.

This popular annual exhibit features works by students of fine art & jewelry-making at Nauset Regional High School.

Guy Lazlow Trudeau describes his artistic process as “an exploration of improvisational materials and techniques.” Theater design and photography are frequent springboards for creative exploration, with his final works often, but not always, ending up as mixed media. His pursuit of abstract compositions inspired by geometric or naturalistic patterns occasionally end up as digital photographs, pencil studies or repurposed linens becoming large canvases. A wide range of materials from household paint, scrap wood, windowscreen, screws and, staples can be seen in, or have been used in some capacity to create a number of his works. He currently resides in Dennis.

An exhibit of photography by Doug Fraser is on display in the Craine Gallery through December 2025, featuring closeups of flowers found in Fraser’s wife’s garden as well as wild and cultivated flowers found along the streets of East Orleans. A resident of East Orleans, Fraser was a journalist for 30 years, including 25 years as an environmental reporter at the Cape Cod Times. This is his first photo exhibition. He took the advice of a photographer friend who said to “always fill the frame.” A reception takes place from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13.

 Brewster-based artist Julie Brooks' abstract mosaics and works in encaustic, patinated and rusted metal, acrylic, and oil are on exhibit in Snow Library's Craine Gallery through November. Her work is rooted in geology, biology and astronomy, "not to explain but to observe, to celebrate, to excavate," she writes in her artist statement. Primarily self-taught, she has studied with leading artists in encaustic, ceramics, painting, cyanotype, cold wax oil painting and metal clay at institutions including the Cape Cod Museum of Art, Truro Center for the Arts and the Cultural Center of Cape Cod. 

Join us at an opening reception for artist Louise Couillard-Ziperman on Saturday, Sept. 13 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the library's Craine Gallery. Couillard-Ziperman's paintings in watercolor, acrylic and pastel are on display in the gallery through September. All are welcome.

Couillard-Ziperman studied at the Longeuil Art Center in Canada and was introduced to watercolor 15 years ago when she studied with the artist Gail Brown of Provincetown. She has also studied with Kelly Knowles, Patsy Aguero, David Dunlop, Johannes Voolthuis, Robert Mesrop and Ann Hart. The unique quality of Cape Cod's light, and her travels, inspire the subjects of her paintings.

Born and raised in Lithuania, Erika Zvilnaite found her artistic voice after moving to Orleans. Painting became her way to navigate new beginnings, blending memories of home with the light and landscapes of Cape Cod. Snow Library has been a sanctuary for her curiosity and creativity, a place where books and light inspired her journey of self-discovery.

This 20-year retrospective traces 20 years of Zvilnaite’s evolution as an artist. It unfolds in three chapters. Beginnings in Oil features vibrant flowers and horses, symbols of hope and renewal. Exploring Place and Medium captures Cape Cod’s landscapes in acrylics, casein, and watercolor as a meditation on memory and transformation. And Into the Subconscious reflects the fluidity and depth of the inner world through introspective watercolors, guided by dreams and emotion.

A photography exhibition by Harwich-based photographer Pat Watson will be on display in the Marion Craine Gallery throughout the month of July. Painted Pixels: The Art of Painterly Photography features 24 of Pat’s works. A reception to meet the artist will be held on Saturday, July 12, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

Works from local artists celebrating diversity, love, unity, and our LGBTQ+ community will be on display in the Craine Gallery during the month of June. An opening reception for the exhibit will be held on Wednesday, June 4.

Works by the Printmakers of Cape Cod will be on display in the Craine Gallery through the month of May. The group is about to celebrate an amazing 50 years as an organization devoted to the making of hand-pulled, original prints, arts education, workshops, and camaraderie on our beloved Cape Cod. A reception for the artists will be held on Saturday, May 10, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. All are welcome.

Yarmouth Port-based artist Aaron Souza is exhibiting a collection of new paintings and silverpoint drawings in the Marion Craine Gallery through the month of February. The exhibition, titled "Land, Light and Figure," will showcase paintings combining traditional technique with Impressionist color sensibility, exploring the beauty of the Cape Cod landscape, the interplay of light and color, and the human figure, along with a group of silverpoint drawings of coastal New England.

Abstract oil paintings by Christine Fitzsimmons will be displayed in the Marion Craine Gallery through December in her exhibition, What Is It? An Exploration of Abstract Art. A reception to meet the artist will be held on Saturday, Dec. 14, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. All are welcome.

Colored pencil works by Beverly Fuller will be displayed in the Craine Gallery in her exhibition, The Fine Art of Colored Pencil. The works will be on display through the month of November. A reception to meet the artist will be held on Saturday, Nov. 9, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. All are welcome.

The recent works of Richard Ogden Perry are on display in the Craine Gallery through the month of October. The exhibit features a mix of intaglio reliefs and watercolor paintings. A reception for the artist will be held in the Craine Room on Saturday, Oct. 12, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Richard is also teaching a two-part course for the Friends of Snow Library Fall Lifetime Learning session, which will dive deeper into his journey as an artist and the techniques he has explored. The first lecture in the course will be on Tuesday, Oct. 8, from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

Circus-themed artwork by the artist, Belfontaine, will be displayed in the Craine Gallery through September. Belfontaine has been studying and creating in paint and sculpture his favorite subject, circus life, for over 39 years. With his immersion into the circus and the life behind the scenes, he has been able to create art that brings the circus into the gallery.

Mixed-media collages by artist Pia MacKenzie will be displayed in the Craine Gallery in her exhibition: Secret Gardens. The works will be shown through the month of August. A reception to meet the artist will be held on Saturday, Aug. 10, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Craine Gallery. All are welcome.

For more than a decade, the Painters’ Group— Marian Strangfeld, Tish Dodge, Helen Baldwin, and Pam Turnbull—has come together to paint. Whether the subject of a painting has been landscape or still life, flora or fauna, abstract or expressive, each painter brings a unique style enhanced by the group’s critiques, suggestions, and motivation. Along the way, good friendships have emerged as well as fine art. Included in this exhibition are some of the paintings born of that process. They will be on display in the Craine Gallery through the month of July.
